The Duke of Sussex announced on the afternoon of May 6 that his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, had given birth to a baby boy in the early hours of Monday morning. On May 8, the couple introduced Baby Sussex to the world via a photocall at Windsor Castle. His name, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, was revealed shortly after via @sussexroyal, the family’s official Instagram account, once he had met the Queen.
During the brief media interview Meghan said: “It’s magic, it’s pretty amazing, and I have the two best guys in the world, so I’m really happy.” The new mother, who wore a white tuxedo dress by BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund winner Grace Wales Bonner and Manolo Blahnik heels for the occasion, added: “He has the sweetest temperament. He is really calm. He’s just been the dream, so it’s been a special couple of days.”
Asked what it was like to be a parent, Harry commented: “It’s great. Parenting is amazing. We are just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy… we want to spend some special time with him as he starts to grow up.”
Three images of the family making their debut appearance were then shared on social media with the caption: “Today the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are delighted to share their first public moment as a family. They are so incredibly grateful for the warm wishes and support they’ve received from everyone around the world, since welcoming their son two days ago.”
Not only has speculation been mounting as to what the child would be called, royal watchers have been wondering whether the Queen will allow him to become a prince. As seventh in line to the throne, Archie Harrison will not receive the title of prince unless Her Majesty intervenes on her new great-grandchild’s behalf – Harry’s great-great-grandfather King George V limited titles within the royal family in 1917. The baby is expected to be given the title of the Earl of Dumbarton.
Upon greeting the media outside the family home of Frogmore Cottage shortly after the announcement regarding his son on May 8, Harry said, “I’m so incredibly proud of my wife… How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension.”
